ARGENTERIA VINTAGE / VINTAGE SILVERWARE

Buon giovedì care amiche,
amate anche voi come me girare per mercatini alla ricerca di tesori d'altri tempi  da portare orgogliosamente a casa?  Non smetto mai di sorprendermi come quello che alcune persone scartano per i più vari motivi diventa un vero tesoro per altre. Lo scorso fine settimana è stato mercatino da noi e nonostante il tempo non fosse favorevole i venditori hanno come sempre allestito i loro banchi con grande cura  per mettere in bella mostra le loro mercanzie.
Come mi piace girare tra i banchi e scambiare quattro chiacchiere con i venditori. Essendo ormai ufficialmente un accumulatore torno sempre a casa con le mani piene di buste.
Questa volta non è stato diverso ed oggi vorrei mostrarvi un bel servizio di posate silver plate  da sei che sono riuscita a portare a casa per un prezzo più che ragionevole. Dopo un bel "bagnetto" ed una lucidata (senza esagerare... a me l'argento piace con la sua bella patina) l'ho riposto insieme agli altri servizi, ma soltanto dopo essermi divertita a scattare qualche foto.

Do you like visiting flea markets as much as I do, and are you also always on the lookout for some treasures of yesteryear to take home with you? It never ceases to amaze me how old things discarded by some people can become treasures for others.
It was flea market weekend last weekend and despite the bad weather I did not miss the opportunity to go treasure hunting. I hardly ever go home empty handed and this time   was no exception. Today I would like to share with you a gorgeous vintage set of silver plate flatware for six I brought home for a very reasonable price (at least what I thought it to be). The moment I saw it I fell in love with the details. sooo pretty.
Gave them a nice bubble bath and polish (but not too much as I love my silver to be tarnished) and had fun setting up a vignette for some showoff.

Buon pomeriggio a tutte!
Come è andata la vostra settimana?
con l'incedere dell'autunno e l'avvicinarsi della stagione inverrnale mi sento sempre particolarmente attratta dallo stile nordico. Nel mio vagare per bloglandia ho appunto scoperto di recente uno splendido blog che oggi vorrei presentare a chi di voi non lo conosce ancora. Si  tratta di Villa Gustaviana della dolcissima Flisan.
E' un blog ricchissimo di magica atmosfera dove lo stile gustaviano è chiaramente percebile  in ogni più piccolo dettaglio della bellissima casa di Flisan.
Ho chiesto a Flisan di presentarsi:
Vivo vicino a Stoccolma con mio marito e la nostra figlia diciottenne. Abbiamo un barboncino di nome Milton ed anche dei gatti. Lavoro a tempo pieno come insegnante. Anni fa ho iniziato un altro blog: lillaflisans.blogspot.com. Qualche anno fa ho cessato l’attività del mio blog. Ho poi creato Villa Gustaviana perché volevo rimanere in contatto con i miei amici di blog ma senza la pressione di doverlo aggiornare troppo spesso.

Il mio stile di arredamento molti credono sia shabby chic ma i mobili che ho a casa sono per la maggior parte originali del 1750-1810. In Svezia questo stile è chiamato Gustaviano, dal Re Gustavo III che regnò in Svezia dal 1771 al 1792. Lui era molto interessato nell’arredamento di interni, l’arte, la cultura e la Francia. Era influenzato dai colori brillantii come il grigio, il giallo, il verde ed il rosa. Mi piace il semplice stile Gustaviano e soprattutto il colore grigio Gustaviano.
Per me è importante cha la mia casa sia accogliente, confortevole e tranquilla. Spesso abbiamo la casa piena di adolescenti, cani e gatti, quindi i miei mobili shabby dipinti con una semplice fodera di cotone (così facile da lavare) sono comodi.
Mi piace l’antiquariato e spesso visito aste e mercatini. La maggior parte dei miei mobili e delle cose che ho acquistato provengono da aste o mercatini oppure sono stati ereditati dai miei nonni che erano commercianti di antiquariato.

How has your week been?
this time of year, with the cold season approaching, I always find myself particularly  drawn to  nordic style. Wandering and dawdling around in bloglandia as I often do in the evenings when the house is finally quiet I recently discovered a wonderful Swedish blog which I would like today to  introduce to those of you who do not know it yet. It is sweet Flisan's Villa Gustaviana, where the magic Gustavian atmosphere is literally everywhere in Flisan's stunning home.
Firstly I would like Flisan to introduce herself to you:
I live near Stockholm with my husband and our 18-year-old daughter. We have a toy poodle named Milton. And we used to have cats.I work full time as a teacher. I've started another blog several years ago: lillaflisans.blogspot.com. A few years ago, I stopped blogging. I started Villa gustaviana because I still want to keep in touch with my blog friends, but without having to feel the pressure to update too often. My interior design style, many believe is shabby chic, but the furniture I have at home is mostly original furniture from 1750 -1810. The style is in Sweden called the Gustavian style after King Gustav III who ruled Sweden from 1771 to 1792. He was very interested in interior design, art, culture and France. He was influenced by the French style of furniture but transferred it to a Swedish flavor by painting the furniture in bright colors such as gray, yellow, green and pink. I love the simple Gustavian style and above all, the Gustavian gray color. For me it is important that my home is welcoming, comfortable and peaceful. We often have the house full of teenagers, dogs and cats.Therefore, my painted, shabby furniture with simple cotton cover (which is so easy to wash) comes in hand.

I like antiques and often visit auctions and flea markets. most of my furniture and stuff I bought at auction,flea markets or inherited from my grandparents who were antique dealers.

ANCORA ANNIE SLOAN CHALK PAINT / MORE ASCP

Buon venerdì a tutte!!!
Pronte per il fine settimana? Io SI! 
Oggi ancora un post in bianco... trasformazioni in bianco per la precisione.
Con il mio primo barattolo di vernice Annie Sloan in Pure White ho dato nuova vita ad un bel numero di oggetti, alcuni dei quali  vorrei condividere con voi oggi. Li avevo tutti ultimati prima delle vacanze ma non avevo ancora avuto modo di presentarveli. Non si è trattato di progetti importanti, ma sicuramente mi sono divertita  molto a mettere un abito nuovo ad oggetti che erano veramente anonimi e decisamente démodé.
La specchiera dorata, così di moda negli anni 80,  ha avuto il suo bel trattamento di pennello. Sorry, presa dall'entusiasmo ho dimenticato di scattare la foto del prima. Così è decisamente più attuale e meglio si adatta ai toni del bianco predominanti nel mio appartamento.

Are you ready for the weekend?
Another white post today... actually it is all about white paint transformations.
With my first ASCP pot in pure white I gave new life to a whole bunch of pieces some of which I would like to share with you today.
They weren't actually big projects but I sure had a lot of fun with the makeovers of cheap, plain, and old fashioned pieces.
Here's what I did to a gilt mirror from the 80's. Golden frames were so much in fashion back then but look definitely out of place nowadays.
Sorry, no Before pic this time. I was so all caught up in the creating moment that forgot to grab my camera and take a picture.
Trust me, it looks so much better now, with some gold peeking through.

 Trovato in un mercatino per pochi euro questo candelabro vintage di ottone ha proprio cambiato aspetto. Ora, dipinto, carteggiato e invecchiato di cera fa bella mostra di sè sulla credenza riflettendo orgogliosamente la sua immagine nello specchio. 

Found at the flea for a few euro this vintage brass candelabrum definitely looks like a different piece now. Painted, distressed and aged with dark wax he now sits on my white buffet proudly reflecting his now charming self in the white shabby mirror.

Da brutto anatroccolo a cigno... il bianco ha dato carattere e chiccosità (si dice??????????) ad una vecchia sedia. 

From ugly duckling to swan: white paint gave character and chicness (does this word exist??????) to an old plain jane chair . 

 Avevo per le mani uno scampolo di damasco bianco che dovrebbe avere più o meno la mia età trovato anni fa nel baule di mia nonna, ed ho voluto utilizzarlo per ritappezzare la seduta.
Rifare la seduta da sola non è stato facile, ma poi armata fino ai denti di gomma piuma, sparapunti, pazienza e decine di tutorials ho avuto la meglio.

I had a scrap of white damask fabric on hand which is more or less my age. Found it in my late grandmother's chest when whe passed away and never had a chance to use it.
As I was not willing to spend money to have it professionally re-upholstered I decided to do it myself. It was no easy task for a novice but with lots of foam, a good stapler, patience and the help of great video tutes I made it! I was so proud of myself. Not bad for a first timer I dare say

ROMANTIC BOX

Salve a tutte care bloggherine,
siete pronte per uno splendido fine settimana?
Da noi c'è il mercatino delle pulci e non vedo l'ora di andare iniziare la mia caccia all'affare al tesoro !
Oggi desidero mostrarvi una delle mie creazioni in pasta di mais. E' una scatola di legno che ho dapprima dipinto del mio colore preferito, shabbato ed invecchiato e poi decorato con delle rose di pasta di mais realizzate da me.
Le rose per una ragazza non sono mai abbastanza, vero? Ed io in particolare A.D.O.R.O. le rose!!
Non è una creazione molto recente, ma non ho mi avuto l'occasione per mostrarvela così ho pensato di farlo oggi.
Mi piace molto lavorare con la pasta di mais. è facile da preparare e divertente da lavorare. non richiede cottura ed è molto resistente e durevole.

It's  fleamarket weekend here so I can't  wait to go junking!!
Today I would like to show you one of my corn starch dough projects. It's not really a  new project as it's been around for quite some time now, but never had the opportunity to show it to you, so why not today?
It's a wooden box that I painted, shabbied and aged and then decorated with my hand made corn starch roses.
A girl  can  never have enough roses, can't she? And I A.D.O.R.E. roses!! But that I guess you have already figured out.
I love working with corn starch dough. It's so easy to make and play with. it dries at room temperature very quickly and is very durable.

ROSE SHABBY / SHABBY ROSES

spero abbiate trascorso uno splendido martedì!

Le ferie sono purtroppo terminate, il caldo ci ha dato un pò di meritato respiro e, dopo la pausa estiva, la creatività è tornata alle stelle.

Nel sistemare un cassetto di scampoli mi sono ritrovata degli scampolini di vecchi lenzuoli che avevo messo da parte qualche anno fa per farne delle bambole di pezza. Ho pensato invece di farne delle strisce, di tingerle con il thé e, dopo averle fatte asciugare al sole, di realizzare delle rose shabby, un pò stropicciate e sfrangiate come piace a me da sfoggiare come stravaganti spille. Ne ho fatte di diverse fogge e dimensioni. Che ve ne pare?

hope you're having a fabulous Tuesday!

Well, vacation is over and although I'm now getting back into the swing of my daily routine, thanks to the cooler temps after the laziness of the past weeks I'm now in the creative mood again.

Found some white muslin in my stash of spare fabric scraps which I had originally intended to use to make rag dolls.

Decided to tea-stained it instead, let it dry in the sun, cut it into strips and make some pretty shabby  tattered frayed roses. Took my hot glue gun and glued pins to the back of the roses to turn them into extravagant floral brooches. Made them in different forms and sizes. What do you think?

I'm already wearing them and find they add a chic touch even to the simplest of my summer tops and blouses.

IL VIRUS DELLA ANNIE SLOAN CHALK PAINT / THE ANNIE SLOAN CHALK PAINT PAINTING BUG

Ebbene care amiche, sono stata ufficialmente colpita dal virus della Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Questa vernice è ormai davvero ovunque in bloglandia ed ho letto centinaia di commenti e recensioni tutti assolutamente positive che non ho potuto fare a meno di tentare la sorte ed acquistare il mio primo barattolo da 1 L in Pure White.

Devo ammettere che ero comunque un pochino scettica sulle innumerevoli virtù di questa vernice. Dubitavo che potesse veramente aderire a qualunque supporto senza il bisogno di carteggiare e passare il primer. Come poteva essere possibile?
Così ho iniziato la mia avventura con la ASCP con progettino semplice semplice: la trasformazione di un comodino vintage acquistato in un mercatino dell’usato per pochi euro. Non un grande progetto dal momento che volevo veramente mettere alla prova la vernice.

Well friends I have officially caught the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint painting bug here @ Rita’s Shabby Chic Rose. After having read gazillions of posts on this famous paint I decided to give it a try and bought my first 1L pot of Pure White. I must admit I was a wee bit sceptical at the beginning as despite the many positive comments found out there in blogland I was unsure it would really stick to A.N.Y. support with no prior sanding or priming. How could that be at all possible?

So I started my ASCP adventure with a rather simple project: a small nightstand I had found at a the local thrift store for only a few euro.
Here’s the before. Really not a big project as I simply wanted to test the paint and its famous virtues.

Ho passato un paio di mani di pittura, carteggiato per dare al mio nuovo tavolino un look invecchiato dal tempo, olio di gomito con la cera neutra per proteggere la pittura ed alcune passate di cera anticante per un tocco in più e voilà ecco il mio nuovo tavolinetto. Che ve ne pare?

I gave the stand a couple of coats of paint, with some light sanding in between the coats, distressed it to give it a light time-worn look, finished it with clear wax and some dark wax touches here and there et voila, here’s my new side table.

Una volta finito con il comodino/tavolinetto (il tutto è stato veramente veloce) sono passata ad un vassoio fiorentino con il quale però sono andata per un look più shabbato.

…ed uno specchio in legno.

Once done with the stand (it was done in a couple of hours) I gave new life to a vintage wooden Florentine tray which is now sitting on my new side table. With the tray I went for a more distressed look and thicker paint texture.

Adoro la chalk paint a devo ammettere che mi diverto davvero molto a pasticciarci.

Nel frattempo, dal mio primo progetto ne sono seguiti molti altri che vi mostrerò però in seguito.

I must admit ASCP is fantastic and I really love to play with it. Many other projects have followed since my very first one, but more on them in some future posts.
