E LE FERIE SONO FINITE!! AND MY VACATION IS OVER!!

Carissime Bloggherine,
finalmente mi faccio viva, al ritorno dalle mie piovosissime vacanza in Alto Adige. Tempo orribile, pioggia e temporali tutti i giorni, temperature tipicamente autunnali...che dire? E' stata comunque una piacevole vacanza con tutta la famiglia in questo hotelnel tipico stile dell'alto adige dove andiamo ormai da otto anni.
Ho pensato di condividere con voi qualche pezzo di arredamento nel tipico stile della zona e niente di meglio delle cassapanche, tanto per iniziare. Che ne dite?

My dear Bloggherettes,
my rainy vacation in South Tyrol is over. The weather was awful all the time - rain, thunderstorms every day, and cooler temperatures more typical of fall rather than summer. but at least I had my holiday in this lovely, homey little hotel we've been staying at for eight years now and given the weather I could finally relax among all the comforts one could expect and imagine after a year of hard work both at the office and at home.
Didn't take many snapshots of the places we've visited as you can easily imagine that after eight years we know the area nearly by heart, but thought I could share some pics of the typical local decor, which is among my faves.
Why not start with those stunning hope linen chests scattered all over the hotel? What do ya think gals?

A typical armoire painted in the Bauernmalerei technique. I'd die to have one like this at home, wouldn't you?

and here's another cute little alcove... in South Tyrol there's an orchid pot near every window

*oil, rice, vinegar*: aren't these just darling?

And now a peak of the Stube... the coziest and comfiest place in a Tyroler house. The stube is all covered by oak wood inside and out to retain the heat of the stove during the cold winters. The stube is the place where the family gets together. Some sort of living room I've been told.

UNA GIORNATA DA RICORDARE PARTE I *** A DAY TO REMEMBER PART # 1

Approfittando della Giornata del Patrimonio domenica pomeriggio siamo andati ad Amelia, una ridente cittadina a circa una ventina di km da Terni. Era previsto che sarebbero state aperti al pubblico tutti i palazzi antichi e la famosa torre ottagonale.

Eravamo assolutamente presi da questa opportunità e la macchina fotografica era, come al solito nella borsa.

Molto bella è la porta della città con le sue mura ciclopiche.

Having done all my housework and being in the mood for something special, on Sunday afternoon we decided to take the opportunity offered by the Heritage Day and off we went to Amelia, a medieval town quite close to our hometown. Historic buildings would be open to the public for guided tours and musical events.

I was simply ecstatic at the idea of the great opportunity ahead of us and my digital camera was already in my purse ready to capture the magic and the charm of what we were about to discover.

Simply astonishing is the entrance door to the town and its thick stone walls

Ed ecco la prima tappa, il Palazzo Venturelli (una curiosità sul nome derivante da Ventura, abbreviazione di Bonaventura) una residenza d'epoca costruita su di una domus romana del I secolo DC. e conserva uno splendido pavimento a mosaico di pietra bianca e nera. Peccato non fosse aperto al pubblico.

We decided that our first stop would be Palazzo Venturelli (the name comes from the Italian word "Ventura", a medieval short form for Bonaventura - meant to wish Good Luck). The Palazzo, was built on an ancient roman domus dating back the first century A.D. Though not open the general public, Palazzo Venturelli still preserves a splendind mosaic floor of black and white stones.

L'edificio, ora adibito a residenza d'epoca e quindi a struttura ricettiva, conserva, per la maggior parte, la sua struttura originaria ed lo stesso mobilio è d'epoca.

The Palazzo, nowadays a historic residence with suits and apartments, has preserved through the centuries its original structure and is decorated with antique furniture.

Un'ampia scalinata ci conduce al piano nobile del Rinascimento, dove i meravigliosi affreschi ed il soffitto istoriato a cassettoni ci narra la storia della Famiglia Venturelli

A wide staircase in cotto and travertino marble leads us to the Renaissance "Piano Nobile" where the marvelous frescoes, the tapestries and the coffered ceiling lead us through a journey in the history of the Venturelli family.

Durante la nostra visita siamo stati allietati da brani tratti dalla "Vedova Allegra" eseguiti da magistralmente un duetto locale. Peccato sia stato difficile rendersi conto del tmpo che è letteralmente volato. Si è fatta purtroppo l'ora di chiusura e quindi abbiamo dovuto interrompere i nostri ambiziosi programmi con Palazzo Venturelli. Ne è valsa ccomunque la pena. Veramente peccato per tutto il resto che abbiamo dovuto lasciare indietro.

During our visit we had the chance to enjoy the masterly performance of a local duet singing pieces from the famous operetta "The Merry Widow".

Too bad we had not kept track of the time which was literally flying by and the closing time came thus forcing us to leave for another time, not without regret, the visit to the other historical Palaces. We are glad though we had the opportunity to enjoy a brief journey into the lives of noble and notable people from past times.

I could really picture myself in those times (am I out of my mind or what!)

All so romantic and grand!
